The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) agency of the USDA works to maintain a
current listing of farmers markets throughout the United States. The USDA National
Farmers Market Directory allows consumers to find the freshest and tastiest fruits,
vegetables and other products available in communities around the country. The Directory
captures information about where farmers markets operate, when they are open, if
they participate in federal food assistance programs like Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (
SNAP);
Women, Infants and Children, Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (
WIC-FMNP); Women, Infants and Children, Cash
Value Vouchers (
WIC-CVV); and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (
SFMNP), what kinds of products are being
sold (including fresh fruits and vegetables), and the number of vendors that sell
at the market.
To help consumers locate and enjoy farmers markets, your participation is necessary.
USDA continues to make vast improvements to the Directory, and all with your help.
You now will have the opportunity to search the USDA database by market name or
zipcode of its location to see if your market is listed. This will greatly reduce
potentially multiple efforts of market representatives to provide information about
the same market.
If you update your market listing by
May 18, your market will appear in the
2012 USDA National Farmers Market Directory by
June 5. This means consumers
will be able to find your market just as the busy summer season is getting underway.
Market listings submitted after
May 18, but by
June 5 will be published
in the Directory by
June 26.
It is easy to provide information about your farmers market for the 2012 USDA National
Farmers Market Directory. Here is how:
- Click on the "Continue" button at the bottom of this page and a form will appear
asking for information about your market.
- For your convenience, on the next page, you will have the opportunity to search
the USDA database by market name or zipcode. If your market is listed, you can select
it for the update. If your market is not listed, please enter the correct official
name of your market and proceed with the update.
- Please make sure that the information that you enter is current and correct as this
is the way your market will be represented in the 2012 USDA National Farmers Market
Directory that is used by consumers.
- Complete this form, and click on the "Submit" button. Providing the information
should take you no more than 10 minutes.
- Upon completing the update, you will be able to preview your information as it will
appear in 2012 USDA National Farmers Market Directory on the USDA web site.
- It is very important that you complete the entire form during one session.
If you exit before completing the form, you will have to start from the beginning
in order to submit your update.
If you manage or represent more than one farmers market, you will need to return
to this page to access a new form to update/provide information on each market.
If you encounter any problems accessing, completing, or submitting the form, please
email the Farmers Market Directory Technical Support team at
farmmkt@msu.edu. In your email, please provide your name and a telephone
number where you can be reached between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm (EDT) on weekdays. You may
expect a response within 2 business days.
If you have any questions concerning the process for updating the Directory,
please contact the Farmers Market Directory Management team at

days of receiving the inquiry.
